Project Description:
SACSAS Academy is a secular organization dedicated to socio economic change in Manipur. In pursuit of this goal, SACSAS focuses on basic education in the belief that education is a critical requisite for socio economic change. It primarily aims at providing quality education to kids in the remote/far flung villages in Manipur where there is no form of education system. It has been successful in taking education to the first generation learners and to an area where education is not being adequately addressed by the government, probably due to lack of political interests in these areas.
Since 2014, Asha Redlands has been supporting Laishoi and Maovam district school running cost including teacher salary and other related education expenses.
SACSAS Academy, New Dampi Branch in Manipur started its operations in 2009 with Asha Houston acting as the steward for this Project. The entire school building construction at New Dampi was sponsored by Mr. Martin H. from London who approached Asha Huston initially for its approval. However, the recurring costs in the functioning of this school was a question at hand which led Asha Zurich becoming a part of the project to fund 50% of the recurring costs comprising salary of the teachers, study tools, uniform for students, text books, school maintenance and scholarships.
This school in New Dampi village caters to 9 surrounding villages and has strength of 164 students who study in classes from pre-nursery to class VI and is the biggest among all the schools operated by SACSAS
Asha-Zurich started funding fifty percent of the recurring expenses incurred every year from 2010.

Organization Description:
One of the main reasons why children of low income family stop going to school or do not go to school at all is because many of their parents do not send them to school for they want to use them to make money for their livelihood, or schools are far and there is no means of transportation to go to schools in neighboring villages. If the children do not have a habit of going to school right from the beginning they will not tell / urge their parents to send them to school. That is how they end up being illiterate. Generally the illiterate parents never feel the importance of getting their children quality education.
The first unit of SACSAS Academy was opened on the 10th of May 2003 at Yaoshulakpa (Laishoi) Branch of Moirang, Manipur. Laishoi is a village where there is no school at all. The guardian of the locality had been trying hard to have at least an Anganwadi branch or any form of school from the state government but the effort was all in vain. They have four teachers to take care of 65 downtrodden children. We are overwhelmed at the response of the parents of the village. We currently have 5 schools running in the remote villages of Manipur.
SACSAS Academy is an FCRA approved organization and the funds can be directly sent to the head office in Moirang, Manipur.

Quality Education for each and every child in Manipur We have made inclusion a cross-cutting theme in our program activities. We try to ensure that our teachers and partners (teachers, school leaders, and parents) receive teaching and leadership practices needed to take care of the needs of all the learners, with a focus on those with special needs that could go unnoticed or get lost in those of the majority. We constantly seek to ensure that every student in Manipur has access to quality education, one that treats them with dignity and worth, and equips them with the tools, knowledge, character and skills to achieve their God-given potential. Despite the state and the central government trying had to provide education, there are barriers to education such as discrimination, stigma, inadequate facilities, and poorly trained teachers, consistently exclude students from remote far-flung areas and with disabilities from classrooms. But disability is not an inability. Like all children, children with disabilities have ambitions and dreams for their future. They are just as worthy of quality education to develop their skills and realize their full potential. Educating all children isn’t just about educating students with physical or mental disabilities. It’s about educating children who have experienced adverse life experiences – experiences that aren’t new but are getting new attention and more resources. Today school social workers and school counselors help teachers help their students access community resources. Teachers no longer have personal responsibility for meeting students’ basic hygiene needs or providing one-on-one after hours tutoring or enrichment to help them discover their potential. Indeed these days being alone in a classroom with an individual child is frowned upon. And that points to another difference between today’s educational system and that of earlier eras: The modern education system doesn't just educate all children. It attempts to shield children from all reasonably foreseeable circumstances. It wasn’t many decades ago that sexual abuse could take place on the other side of a door. Even in the post-2000 era, there were cases where a respected educator molested or otherwise engaged in sexual misconduct, ostentatious signs of grooming missed by colleagues. Today's teachers have trainings on academics and also on bullying, suicide prevention, and recognizing abuse and neglect. They have trainings on acting as professionals in the classroom and as advocates in the larger community.SACSAS Academy belief that a Society can be transformed and progress only by transforming the kids through Quality Education. We will need more non-government entities and organizations like SACSAS to achieve India government’s goal to Quality education and surpass the Right to Education. Every Child Is Unique and Every Child Has to Learn the Same Skills by better means. Relationship between education and society is intricate and interconnected. Quality Education is a reflection of a broader and better society.
